Coming to the rugged Galapagos Islands is like travelling back in time to when the Earth was young. There is something biblical about this place, where humans walk among animals in peace. Some nursing sea lions would look up when they sensed something approaching them and their noisily suckling pups. When they saw it was only humans they would lie down again. Some animals were oblivious to spectators, such as a succession of ever-larger sea lion bulls chasing off flippered competitors caught moving in on a group of sunbathing females.
The Galapagos National Park and Marine Reserve are globally unique and extraordinary ecosystems, recognized as World Heritage Sites. This isolated island group is among the best conserved of the worlds tropical archipelagos.
